African people in general especially those living in Africa wear attires made from African print as part of their culture and lifestyles; while Africans and Africans Americans like myself who live in the western world wear it mostly for special occasions. One such occasion is during Black History month observed and celebrated throughout the month of February each year. It is our way of honoring our African ancestors, connect with our roots and show recognition to our people as a group especially those whom had contributed to western civilization.
With Black History month fast approaching many of us are already thinking about our attires: What African print(s) do I want to wear as there are so many beautiful, artistic prints and vibrant colors to choose from. Made up in traditional and contemporary designs. The younger generation prefers a more contemporary designs while the older goes for the traditional ones. I personally love the contemporary designs mainly because they are more structured and form fitted.
Presently there is a niche market for contemporary designs clothing in African prints that I am ready to tap into, with my own exclusive designs that balances the traditional and the contemporary, keeping the relevance to the culture uniqueness while giving life to the prints in the modern world.
